Running a course

Set a refresher

Make a course due again on a cycle, and read due soon and overdue.

Before you start

The course issues a certificate. Validity is chosen on the certificate screen, and it is fixed when each certificate is issued. Changing it later does not rewrite certificates already in people’s hands.

Steps

  1. On the course, choose Review certificate setup.
  2. Under Validity, leave Issue certificates on. Off means trainees can still pass, and no certificate is produced.
  3. Set Expiry & reminders. Choose Never expires or a whole number of weeks, months or years. Choose No reminder or a reminder shorter than the certificate period.
  4. Choose Save & approve certificate setup to confirm the design, expiry and reminders. Approval does not publish, enroll or send invitations.

What happens next

A certificate issued after the change carries that validity. On Compliance, Current is still in date, Due soon is approaching the end, and Overdue has lapsed. On the public check page a lapsed certificate reads Expired — genuine, but no longer in date — and shows Valid until for one that still holds. See Check a certificate.

Common problems

  • A list of certificates can show expired rows even after you set Never expires. Those rows were issued under the earlier setting. The course page says validity follows the expiry setting at the time each certificate was issued.
  • Due soon is the trainer’s word on Compliance. The public check page does not use it as a status name.
